What is this tool?
A PDF rotation tool changes the orientation of pages — 90 degrees clockwise, 90 degrees counter-clockwise, or 180 degrees — and bakes that rotation permanently into the file so it displays correctly in every PDF viewer without manual adjustment. Rotation is the fix for the classic scanned-document problem: pages that come out sideways or upside down from a copier, a phone scan, or a feeder scanner that mis-detects orientation. It is also useful for mixing landscape charts into a portrait document — rotate the chart pages so they read correctly when the reader turns the device or the printed page. Because rotation is a metadata operation, it is lossless and instant regardless of file size.
The tool shows a visual page grid so you can click exactly the pages that need rotating, apply the rotation, and preview the result before downloading. All processing happens in your browser, so even sensitive documents stay on your device. You can stack rotations to reach any angle — three 90-degree clicks get you to 270 degrees, for example — since the tool accumulates rotations correctly.
Rotation in pdf-lib sets the page Rotate dictionary entry to a multiple of 90 degrees, which every compliant viewer honors on render without touching the underlying content stream, so the operation is effectively instantaneous regardless of whether the page holds a 50 KB text page or a 5 MB full-page photograph. Because the rotation is metadata-only, the page MediaBox and CropBox dimensions stay unchanged, meaning a landscape page rotated to portrait will display correctly but the logical page size reported by tools may still read as landscape, which matters if you subsequently merge or impose the file for booklet printing.
