Crop Image

An image cropper removes the outer portions of an image to focus on a specific region, with an 8-handle crop box, rule-of-thirds overlay, and enforced aspect ratios. VisualDocs supports JPG, PNG, and WebP up to 50 MB, exports as PNG to preserve full quality, and processes everything in your browser. You can crop freely or lock to a ratio like 1:1, 16:9, 4:3, or a custom numeric ratio that the crop box enforces automatically.

Cropping improves composition by removing distracting background and focusing on the subject, meets platform aspect-ratio requirements (square for Instagram, 16:9 for YouTube, and so on), and protects privacy by letting you cut out sensitive information before sharing screenshots. Unlike resizing, cropping changes which part of the image you keep, not the dimensions of the whole image — you are selecting a region, not scaling the frame.

The rule-of-thirds grid helps with composition by showing where to place key elements, and the dimension badge updates live as you drag so you can hit a target size precisely without guessing. The crop is non-destructive — the original image is never modified — so you can re-run with different settings anytime and never lose your source file.

All crops export as PNG to preserve full quality with no re-compression artifacts, which matters when the cropped region will be enlarged or printed later, since JPEG compression would introduce visible block boundaries along edges. The crop operation uses the Canvas drawImage method with source and destination rectangles, meaning the selected region is copied pixel-for-pixel at full resolution without any resampling, so a 4000 by 3000 photo cropped to a 1000 by 1000 square retains every pixel of detail in the kept area. For workflows where you need both a precise crop and a smaller file, crop first to the right region, then run the result through Compress Image to apply JPEG or WebP encoding without degrading pixels you already discarded.
