Watermark PDF

The watermark is drawn as a text object baked into the page content stream via pdf-lib, which means it renders above the existing page content but below any interactive form fields, so it will not obscure fillable areas on forms. Because the text becomes part of the page rather than a separate annotation layer, it cannot be removed by simply deleting annotations in Acrobat, making it more durable than comment-style stamps. The opacity control is achieved through the graphics state alpha parameter, so a 20 percent watermark is genuinely translucent rather than a light gray approximation, and it composites correctly over both white backgrounds and colored page elements like charts and photographs.
